Putting a Price on the Queue

For a decade a grid connection offer in Britain has been a free option on network capacity. Two proposals have now arrived to charge for it: up to £712,500 per megawatt on a data centre, £3,000 per megawatt on a battery. Same diagnosis, prices two orders of magnitude apart, and the one aimed at the worst-oversubscribed technology in the queue was written by a company that builds batteries.
