The rally paused. UK gas day-ahead fell by around two and a half per cent, with the October and winter contracts giving back a few pence as a warmer weather outlook and a slight easing in geopolitical tension allowed the market to take back some of the premium accumulated earlier in the week. The correction was shallow, recovering only about a quarter of the preceding two sessions' gains.

Nothing structural changed. European storage remains well below where it has sat in recent years, and Norwegian supply is still being disrupted by unplanned maintenance of uncertain duration, though higher losses at one field are currently being offset by increased flows elsewhere. A statement from the European Commission that it sees no immediate risk to supply security appears to have helped calm the prompt.

Prompt power continued to fall, settling sharply lower again as wind averaged well above the previous week's level and nuclear output kept recovering. Within the day the system was long from mid-morning onward and never recovered, spending several periods in negative territory and, unusually, producing no evening peak at all. The forward curve eased only modestly, leaving the gap between a winter strip pricing scarcity and a prompt awash with renewable output wider than at any point this week.
